How to Save Money Without Clipping Coupons

Yes, I'll admit it. Clipping coupons isn't always for everyone. Even for those of us who regularly use coupons, occasionally we pass through a season of life when we don't have TIME to sort, clip, and organize coupons.

Check out this post from Crystal at Biblical Womanhood:
Lower Your Grocery Bill without Clipping Coupons

In our family, the plan is generally to buy the "loss leaders" (best deals) with coupons at stores when they're items we need, can use or donate. From there, we get non-sale staples at Aldi (thank GOD for Aldi!). Crystal recommends Aldi as well - if you haven't checked it out, now is a great time! If you have an Aldi-shopping friend, ask if you can meet and shop together the first time so that you can learn as you go.

Old Navy: $5 Valentine's Day Coupon

Visit Old Navy anytime before February 14th with your child (or children), and they will each be given an Old Navy Valentine to color. Have your child color the card and return to Old Navy on or before Saturday, Feb 14th to present it to the store. Old Navy will give your child a coupon for $5 off a purchase in exchange for the colored card. Note that you can pick up the coupon before Valentine's Day--but you will ONLY be able to use it on Saturday, the 14th.

If you can't think of anything you need at Old Navy, $5 will usually get you 3 free pairs of socks, if not something from the clearance rack! This week, all graphic tees, polos and knit shirts for toddlers are only $6 ($1 after coupon). You might consider grabbing a goodie or two with Easter baskets in mind as well! Any other ideas on how to use this coupon?

The fine print on the coupon: Only valid at Old Navy Stores in the US and Canada. Not valid online. Coupon is good for one-time use only and must be surrendered at time of in store purchase. Cannot be combined with other offers. If value of the purchase is less than the total value of the coupon the unused balance will be forfeited.

How do you save money like that?

We get asked this question quite often when people learn how much money we save on our grocery bill (usually 50-75% off regular prices). For us, saving money is driven partially by necessity and partially as a strange hobby of sorts. It does take TIME, however. You'll find that time and money are almost always a tradeoff, and it works that way with bargain-hunting, too.

Once you familiarize yourself with the terms, abbreviations and rules of the game, you'll find it's not difficult to reduce your spending.

If you don't already get the Sunday paper, you'll want to consider a subscription or make an effort to stop and purchase one or more every week. Even that is optional, however, as many coupons are now available in printable formats.

I'll try to regularly post the best grocery deals for Macomb area stores. In addition, I'll post freebies, drug store and online deals when they're good. Please feel free to ask questions or chime in - I don't have all the answers, but I'll do my best to help!
