Meijer Announces Voluntary Recall of Specific Ground Beef Products Received From JBS Swift Beef Company

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., July 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Meijer initiated a voluntary recall of fresh hamburger and fresh ground beef sold in its stores in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky. Specifically, Meijer has recalled the following items:

FRESH HAMBURGER - UPC 20165500000 with "sell by" dates of April 26, 2009-June 19, 2009 and "freeze/use by" dates of April 27, 2009-June 20, 2009 (Michigan stores only)

FRESH GROUND BEEF - UPC 201668000 with "sell by" dates of April 26, 2009-June 19, 2009 and "freeze/use by" dates of April 27, 2009-June 20, 2009 (stores in Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky)


Meijer has taken these steps following an expanded recall from the JBS Swift Beef Company. While this Meijer brand product has not been identified as contaminated or linked to any illness, Meijer has received these products from the JBS Swift Company, which has been verified as a potential source of beef products contaminated with E. coli.

Meijer requests that customers who have purchased these products destroy the product or return them to any Meijer location for a full refund. If Meijer customers are unsure if they have the recalled product, they can call the Meijer customer contact center at 800-543-3704.
