SOME TIPS & TRICKS for MOM to MOM SALE SHOPPERS:
- Be prepared with small bills and a pocketful of quarters. Stop at the bank and ask for small bills BEFORE you arrive at the sale. Many times, as the sale opens, no one will have the money to provide change for your $20 bill and you'll be out of luck.
- Bring a bag or two. I like to bring my big IKEA reusable shopping bag to sales - it's easy to fit everything in! Bringing a bag or two will make things much easier. Some sellers will have grocery bags for you; others may not be as prepared.
- Invite a friend. Let each other know what you're on the lookout for and you'll double your chances of finding what you're looking for! It can also be more fun to have a shopping buddy!
- Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. You may be doing a good deal of walking. Dress in layers - some buildings will be extra toasty with so many shoppers in attendance!
- Brave the crowds. If you're arriving when the sale opens, expect to stand in line. Have your admission ready and try to be patient. It will be MUCH easier to navigate the sale without a stroller or kids in tow, but if you don't have a choice, you won't need to miss out. Check to see whether a sale allows strollers inside (some will not be able to allow them because of fire code).
- Check items carefully. Clothing should not be stained or damaged, but it's possible that the seller didn't notice. Test zippers and look for missing buttons. Make sure that toys aren't missing important pieces.
- Shop the beginning or the end. You'll find the best selection at the beginning of the sale, with the best deals (some sellers will cut prices in half or accept offers on their merchandise) as the sale draws to a close.
