Oh what a great idea - I for some reason never thought of that!
ReplyDeleteHi~ I was at Meijers today and they had a thing showing that if you buy one oscar mayer fullycooked bacon (the one in the box) and one 18oz kraft mayo. you get free tomatoes via a meijer custom coupon!! Sounds pretty good if you hit a sale!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your coupon matchups-- I was able to save 130+ today!!! Yippppeeee!!!
I recommend using them to make pasties - you can freeze them cooked or uncooked. Use half of one crust for each (1 pkg. will make 4 pasties). Filling recipe is below - but you can add/change to suit your tastes. Serve with ketchup or gravy! I miss being in the UP - we had these every Tuesday in the Student Union when I was in college.
ReplyDeleteFilling
1 lb. round steak, coarsely ground
1 lb. boneless pork loin, coarsely ground
5 carrots, chopped
2 lg. onions, chopped
2 potatoes, peeled and chopped
1/2 c. rutabaga, chopped (or sub turnip)
2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
Combine all ingredients in large bowl. NOte that this is enough filling for about
Put 1 cupsof filling on half of the pie crust half. Moisten the edges and fold the unfilled half over the filling to enclose it. Pinch the edges together to seal them and crimp them decoratively with a fork. Transfer pasty to lightly buttered baking sheet and cut several slits in the top. Fill the remaining dough in the same manner. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes. Put 1 tsp. butter through a slit in each pasty and continue baking for 30 minutes more. Remove from oven, cover with a damp tea towel, cool for 15 minutes.
Still $2.38 at my store with an expiration of Feb.18th. Hopefully it's just a matter of time!
ReplyDeleteStill had them at full price at my store except for a few in the marked down area, and those were $1.70 a piece. Hopefully they'll mark them down while the catalina is still on.
