Meijer Sneak Peek: January 17-23, 2010

After a rather unpleasant experience at the Meijer checkout this morning, I'm not exactly in the mood to encourage you to shop Meijer next week. However, encountering rude cashiers is simply one of the many obstacles to saving money - and it happens to all good couponers every once in a while. Whenever you have a Meijer experience that merits sharing - whether wonderful or frustrating - strongly consider completing the online survey as directed on the bottom of your receipt! We can only hope that Meijer will work out their inconsistencies in the future.

While the quality of this week's Meijer sales will not be matched for quite a while, there are a few deals that you'll want to know about for next week. 2. I am one of those people who will find the manager right away and let them know both good and bad. My husband laughs at it, but I have gotten free food at resturants and coupons by doing it.

  4. I used to get excited about going to Meijer knowing I was going to get an awesome deal with all the sales and my coupon match ups. Now I start to feel anxious about the check out because I get evil eyes and warnings from some cashiers and supervisors. Though I did feel a sense of pride this week when the lady behind me in line was impressed with my coupon savings and asked if I wouldn't mind telling her how much I saved!

  5. That is too bad... I have been so embarrased by a cashier that I REFUSE to use a B1G1 coupon on a B1G1 Sale to get two items for free. I feel your pain!

  6. Went to Meijer this AM & I almost screamed. Cashier totally had a bug up her butt about coupons. I was doing NOTHING & I repeat NOTHING wrong. However, I get so much pleasure in being so icky sweet & nice to them, it kills me when the lightbulb in their head goes off.

    1. Cashier threw a fit about the catalina BC fruit snacks deal. She said I was "doing it wrong".
Me: "please explain to me what I am doing wrong. I am buying 5 items, using legit coupons & getting a catalina back". What am I doing wrong?
Her: "I'm paying you to buy these fruit snacks".
Me: "technically YOU are not paying me, meijer is offering a promotion. If they do not want me to follow a promotion, why do they have it?". HEr: "its just wrong".
Me: OK,please show me the coupon policy, so I can do things right then.
Her: We don't have a policy.
Me: Hmmm....... I'll have to look into that. What is the right way to do this catalina promotion?
Her: She just shakes her head & no answer.

    2. Her: "We can't take smartsource coupons, they're a scam".
Me: "what? since when? Please show me what coupons are not OK? Do you have any information on this from managment or corporate? I haven't heard of this. (By now I have 3 other cashiers around me looking at my coupons)Its 6am & I think they are bored or angry, not sure which.
Her: Well, I'll take these, you don't seem to have any that are illegal. I can't double these though, it says do not double.
ME: That is fine, if you are not allowed to double, do what you are supposed to do.

So, she hand keyed in every single coupon (I had like 30+), just to make sure 1 wouldn't accidently double. She shook her head & huffed the whole time. Seriously, like its coming out of her pocket. I can totally get the "do not double" thing, but the catalina deal is what began the whole mess with her. She didn't like that I was basically getting money back. I kept a positive attitude & just kept the attitude of "inform me if I'm doing something wrong". I seriously don't get these cashiers who act like its coming out of their own pockets. I am going to print out the meijer coupon post you had previously & carry it with me. I had to do that with Rite Aid, but now Meijer. By the time I walked out pf the store, she apologized 3 times & showed me the "book" of all the scam coupons. Never seen any of them before. May want to be aware of this whole "smartsource" coupon scam. She really couldn't give me any info on it.

  7. That sounds a lot like my transaction yesterday. Was it the Hall Rd Meijer? Maybe it's the same cashier. It was nice to be accused of being paid to take things out of the store. My husband ended up calling the manager (in addition to my completing the survey at the bottom of my receipt). If I get treated like that again, I WILL ask to speak with a manager immediately. There is NO REASON, regardless of policy, that a cashier should accuse you of something before checking out the details. While I agree that I can't expect coupons to double, there's no reason for them to raise a stink about it like that. I hope you got her name!

  8. On the Smartsource coupon "scam" -
Smartsource coupons are NOT a scam. They are legitimate coded coupons with print limits from a legitimate site. However, there may be shoppers photocopying these coupons illegally and that can send out red flags to cashiers about the coupons.

  9. Good job for stading up for yourself. My sister and I were informed (intimidated) by the u-scan cashier the other day that they (as she pointed to the cameras) are watching. She said that too many people were copying coupons and scamming them. She told us that they would be cracking down. I asked her if they had a limit to how many orders you could do and she said no as we were doing multiple transactions. She made us feel nervous like we were doing something wrong. We were only using legit coupons that they had put on their boxes of fruit snacks and getting coupons back that print out of their machine. Is it our fault that they sometimes have great promotions?!?!? I don't feel bad since we did nothing wrong. I will continue to shop with my coupons and try to find the "better" cashiers who don't make you feel bad!

  10. There is more info on the scam coupons if you go to the Meijer coupon policy you had posted and click on the link that they have posted at the bottom. I looked at the general coupon alert for January and it has more info on smart source (2nd page). Maybe this helps a little.

  11. IT was the Meijer at Hall & HAyes. The cashier was named Merilla. ITs on the receipt & I will be contacting Meijer first thing on Monday morning. Yes, there are some sneaky criminally minded people. However, you do not have to treat everyone like a criminal. She showed me some of the scam coupons & they were: $6.00 off corona beer, Free Wii system, $4.00 off Quaker product. No rhyme or reason to them. I'm gonna go check out that Meijer coupon policy & print it out. Thanks~Steph

  12. I wish that there was a way for there to be at least one nice cashier in every meijer every day. It always seems that No matter who, they always get so grummmmmmmmpy :o) They start out nice and end up nasty :o)

Oh well!! I really try to be nice about the whole thing. I don't know why they hate coupons! It's not like they are paying -- if anything they are getting paid to accept a coupon!!! Soooooo.... in the end they end up making a handsom little sum at the end of a good coupon week!

Went to meijers this week and handed the cashier (man) a nice stack of coupons he didn't say 10 words!!! Goodness... either they hate coupons so much they can't stop telling you how to use them or they totally stay quiet:o)

  13. You guys need to come to Goshen, IN. I couldn't tell you the last time I had a problem with a cashier. I often have to use u-scan because I shop too late to get an open lane. Even then the u-scan cashier is very friendly about having to override the register to get my coupons to go through. I prefer to go through a manned lane because coupons go faster, but still haven't had a problem in months that couldn't be EASILY fixed at the service desk, and that was usually my problem for getting the wrong size of something. GO GOSHEN!!
